VIVA LA DORKUS...

OK, okay, so not like me-but here it goes. Im going to write about the new COLDPLAY album. VIVA LA VIDA and his dying or something or other friends...

I first heard the VIOLET HILL track a few weeks ago on the DL and kinda liked it. Of course I liked it because it was COLDPLAY and everyone LOVES them, like OMG!!! The truth is, I like them too. I am sometimes jealous of GWYNETH PALTROW because her husband probably croons to her in bed AND he has an english accent.

I guess its just that I tend to shy away mainstream stuff because it gets so hyped up and usually Im unimpressed. Call it elitist if you will, I dont really care. Half the music I like most people havent heard of because few take the time to look outside the box. I dont mean it in a snobby way at all, its just- Why read my blog if you can read about U2, COLDPLAY and MAROON 5?? Let all the others talk about the same crap. I like to enlighten and open peoples ears up to stuff theyve never heard of.
Anyway. Thanks to JS- Ive had the album for a week now. Was playing VIOLET HILL to death and STRAWBERRY SWING.. Strawberry Swing was produced by BRIAN ENO along with a bunch of other songs, need I say more? Hello brilliance-- Hes honestly the reason why I gave this album more than 10 minutes of my time. VIDA LA VIDA is an awful name for a song and dont even get me started with the fact that its the name of the album .. HI, is cheesy there?? Im sorry but all I can think of is LIVING LA VIDA LOCA. I will only refer to this album as the "NEW ONE."

One thing I have noticed is that the lyrics to their songs are pretty simple and unimpressive. Particularly on the 42 track. "Those who are dead are not dead, theyre just living in my head.. And since I fell for that spell, I am living it as well.." Sorry chris, but youll need to do a bit more to impress me, lyrically speaking on this album. Another favorite track of mine is LOST and LOVERS IN JAPAN. OKAY DAMMIT, I LIKE THIS ALBUM- GRRRRR... Happy mainstreamers???!!!
It has a whimsical vibe to it- to which I will credit ENO for. The album has an ethereal chant-like sound that almost reminds me a bit of PANDA BEAR and SONIC YOUTH, lending a nice atmospheric vibe as well. The introduction of synthesizers, violins and bongos are refreshing, fading out the usual piano like ballads that they are infamous for. The first track LIFE IN TECHNiCOLOR is a complete instrumental, didnt love it, honestly. We all know that MARTIN can sing and he proves to live to up to his end of the deal.
All in all, its a (really) nice album. I recommend it. Buy it, steal it, play it- just dont be caught dead saying VIDA LA VIDA in my presence, k??!

In other news, I had to write an essay today for class. Havent written one of those in a while. I think I tanked. Terrible topic. Should all college students be required to learn a foreign language?? HUH??!! Who cares. Claro que si- OBVS!!!

X to tha O ness
