AZURE RAY, MARIA TAYLOR, whatever you want to call her. I have never heard a voice quite like hers that is this soothing. Her voice can pretty much mellow out a woodpecker on speed. Their sound is so ethereal, its just perfection.. Its no wonder she dates, dated or is still bf and gf with Conor Oberst. I dont even need to get into that one. He is the end all for me. Two geniuses collaborating on one track = A SONG BENEATH THE SONG by MARIA TAYLOR.
I first became a fan when I bought the SADDLE CREEK 50 album five years ago after L urged me to. This label houses the best of the best. That record changed my life. RILO KILEY, THE FAINT, BRIGHT EYES, DEPSPERACIDOS, AZURE RAY, THE GOOD LIFE, CURSIVE, AZURE RAY consists of her and ORENDA FINK. Their voices together are heavenly.. ....Ugh so many more amazing bands. BUY that album. For real. Her song NOVEMBER and BEAUTIFUL THINGS CAN COME.. are beautiful.

3, 2, 1.... MEMORIAL WEEKEND MIX
Hope everyone is getting their fill of traffic, hot dogs and- sunburnt noses. My weekend has been nice so far considering the fact that I stayed put and did not make the exodus to the shore. Last year this time- was one of the best weekends of my life- and it was totally adorable when the peeps I spent it with called me to ask if I was on for round 2. Sometimes good times need to be left at just that and not relived. Nostalgia.

WAITING....
My little sister is due to give birth any minute now and I am soo excited. She looks so beautiful prego but we are ready for the little fetus to come out and meet us. We went for lunch today in Willy with my mom and then came back to my house for an art project. I bought her this plaster mask to make an imprint of her stomach so that we could always remember her first time.
I bought the kit off of ebay and couldnt wait to give it a spin. She declared that she refused to do her boobs and that I couldnt go anywhere closer than an inch from in her words- her PB&J- hahaha you heard right and yes its exactly what youre thinking it is!! So FUNNY. Gosh she can be hilarious. After the contraption dried, it was a grueling task to get it off. It was stuck to her stomach and she was screaming. If she gives birth tonight- it is sooo my fault. Now we wait for it to completely dry and just stare at this creepy mold.
On the music front- PHANTOM PLANET released their LONG AWAITED ALBUM!!!! These guys were my favorite years ago. They were one of the bands that were instrumental in helping me realize just how much music means to me and how it makes me feel. RECENTLY DISTRESSED was my favorite track. Yeah, when the OC used CALIFORNIA as their theme song it kinda freaked me out, but nevertheless they are and always will be a part of me. Oh and need I say anything about my love for anything that JASON SCHWARTZMEN is attached to???
So the new ALBUM is called RAISE THE DEAD. Nice new refreshing sound but still stays true to their sound and essence with a hint of angst. You can also see that they have matured somewhat through their lyrics. They have definitely come into their own sound. My favorite track on the album is LEADER. Its a great song and honestly any song with children singing the chorus or in any part of a song pulls at my heart strings. Chilly willys for sure. SHIP LOST AT SEA is another fun rock- like track. I definitely feel a bit of a STROKES vibe in I DONT MIND. Get this album, I dont think you will regret it. I assure you that you will be
playing LEADER on repeat- a good 5,6 times. GEt ready to hum the whooo whooo whoo ooooohoooooo..

So last night... I went to see the BLACK KIDS with L & L and all I have to say is WOW. They played at Bowery Ballroom, my favorite venue- so already I was on a high. The band that opened for them blew us all away. They were called BOY CRISIS. The lead-ish singer, (because they all do rotate the mic and sing together) reminded me of the guy in FORGETTING SARAH MARSHALL. His outfit was ridiculously good and he looked just like Aussie fellow. All of the band members were actually amazing. Its been a while since ive seen such a refreshing band doing something so different. They sounded like CUT COPY on a date with HOT CHIP smoking a D with BOB MARLEY. Their vibe was contagious- the whole place was rocking. Their dance moves were equally amazing. These guys are going to hit it big and you will remember that you saw it here first. I told them that I was going to blog about them and they were so adorable and happy. Great guys. Tal was the sweetest in his blue hoody.. Listen to them NOW. Heres their myspace page. TO OUT OR NOT TO OUT...
That is the question.
Last night over dinner, my blog came up in conversation on the table. Yes, I felt so cool- obviously. Anyway I was asked if people knew who I was and whether I signed my posts with a name or a pseudo name. The answer was no. I guess im still coming to terms with this whole blogging thing and whether id like to be "outed" or not. The point is- Im thinking about personalizing this blog a drop more with perhaps even..... a picture. GASP!! Ugh, Im gagging just thinking about it. I love my readers- whomever you guys are. Thanks for reading my random nonsense.
While we are on the blogging topic- Id like to say that I think that the internet is a great place for hostile agro people. I mean, where else can one mouth off and seem really tough, while crouching over on their computer chair in their full meek nerdy
glory? ? Like in that movie, 8 MM with Nicolas Cage. The head honcho of snuff films name was MACHINE- he wore a scary as all hell getup in leather, chains and steel and was covered in that crap from head to toe..... SO SCARY! Like scarier than Michael Jacksons nose scary. Turns out he was just some fat old loser creep living in his moms basement with action figures and a record player. You follow? The internet is a sounding board for all. Cool, nerdy, desperate or genius- gotta love it.
On the music front- Gossip Girl is playing the sh*t out of THE KILLS for like the 6th week in a row. Ahemm not gonna say I told you so or anything. We were in a store the other day and S screamed- "Listen--- your band!" I was so proud. Shes been listening, oh- and by the way it was an obscure track too.. No point in that story.
MUSIC PICK--
WHITE WILLIAMS- NEW VIOLENCE- so good!! Think- HOT CHIP meets David BOWIE. The sound is bright and cheerful with a punch of electronic zest. Its a song that everyone will enjoy. From his album SMOKE. Its relatively new.
Gosh I wish I was better at just posting the mp3 stream on this site. If someone can help me, Id appreciate it- a hint?? OOh got it!

F THAT.....
Im convinced at this point that I dislike the letter F. The letter F is one big pain in the ass. Things that start with that letter are even yikes at times. I dont really think that Im hitting on something monumental here because others must have agreed long ago. Shall we???
1. Getting an F on a final or on a paper in school pretty much ruins your day and causes severe heaving. Even school declared it the "end all" of letters!!
2. The F chord is the most impossible chord to play- yes Nicole- even on my ukulele. Its the most unsmooth transition known to man- contorting your fingers into the most unnatural position..
3. F is the floor I detest walking up to.
4. The F <------- word. WHAT??!! Yup its a CURSE WORD.
5. Fergie- need I say more?
6. Frisse- ewww- does anyone like that branchy crap in their salad? Its just an awful bitter filler.
Im just saying, I hate the F chord but love the way it sounds. Hence the reason for this random rant and train of thought.

SOMETIMES PART 342
Sometimes mothers day isnt complete unless a waiter does something extremely rude or annoying.
Sometimes just playing my ukulele makes my day.
Sometimes a huge outburst of laughter makes me feel like im ten years old again.
Sometimes the word okay is just enough to end a conversation.
Sometimes retarded religious fanatics vandalize your home and theres nothing you can do other than to tell everyone you know about it and just carry on as usual, well not really usual but whatever..
Sometimes being honest can hurt like hell but in doing so there is so much to be gained.
Sometimes my showers burns the living daylights out of me. Sometimes it freezes me to death. Regardless of either scenario, I come out of the shower beet red. weird.
Sometimes people hate on my blog and make fun of my music views- but I dont care because they keep reading it. Mwahaha.
Sometimes singing FREE FALLIN' at the top of my lungs with my loved ones in the car is the most amazing feeling in the world.

FREEE...
Today was the first time I had an actual free day in ages. I went with Dee to the city and we shopped for a mothers day gift for my mom and walked around together.
"Wow Dee", I said to her as we browsed through the clothing at Scoop, "it feels so good to just be human, ya know? Im not worried about some tedious assignment, we are just shopping and enjoying a beautiful day" She looked at me and said "I know, im so glad youre normal again. Its nice to have you back- without you being a weirdo- now what should we get Mommy?"
Here I was getting all emo with her and sharing my deepest thoughts, and she was like get over it- quit being a freak and lets make some progress!! Again, gotta love her.
We got mom her gift.
We ate lunch.
Dee was almost reduced to tears when the waiter didnt bring the bread quick enough- her baby was doing wheelies in her stomach- and I almost punched the waiter for making her suffer for 15 grueling minutes.
I bought a cool black shirt that Dee coined a lesbian one. Im convinced its her way of telling me that she wants it.
FYI- For anyone whos looking for the perfect mothers day card for their black mother, rest assured- there are plenty of them out there. Thats right folks. Black moms on the cards. What next, an asian mom too? Then a hassidic mom for the jewish children? What is our world coming to? Why do our greeting cards need to feature race? Isnt a mom just a mom is a mom? Black, white yellow or blue? Yawn. Save the racial hate mail. I bought one for my mom- whether I will give it to her is another story. Guess I will see what her mood is like on Sunday. If not I can always give it to my grandma.
My moms favorite word of the week is eccentric but- its so cute because she says ess-entric. I refuse to give her crap about it because its so funny. My mission this week is to get her to say it at least twice a day.
Im tired. Gnite.
