So it seems, I have some readers on this thing here. I love that people check my blog out. So thank you and keep reading! Its also been brought to my attention that one of my readers has linked my blog on hers. Shes actually really adorable and I recommend dropping by her blog for some refreshing memoir snip -its mixed with music picks and lovleyness. Leslie. In tuning into hers, I came across KEVIN DEVINE. I first heard of him a lil while ago- hes a BROOKLYN boy, so thats always a turn on!! REPRESENT! - but I completely forgot about him until I saw him on her blog and was like, oooh, I know that guy!!
Nice one LESLIE-LOO- thanks for the reminder!
So anyway, KEVIN DEVINE- my favorite track is JUST STAY off of his album PUT YOUR GHOST TO REST. Hes a cross between DASHBOARD CONFESSIONAL, DEATHCAB for CUTIE and BRIGHT EYES. I love the beginning of the song where its just him singing on his accoustic guitar- then later on, the song builds into a great jam. Check it out.
Apparently, I dont post enough music- is what ive been told. So I going to work on that and start sharing a lil more. Robert suggested posting a mini playlist every day. Thats a bit much but maybe once a week or every couple of days.... We shall see.
I guess people are less interested in my annoying thoughts and are more interested in my music picks? Okay, I can take a hint. You will miss my random rants. Hahaha.
Hope the rain is passed us. Im so over soggy days.
So heres JUST STAY-

SOMETIMES...
Sometimes the windows in my car get jammed and refuse to budge when I try to close them. It is so frustrating- especially when its raining outside.
Sometimes my little sister does the same exact rolling of the eye/flutter thing that I do and it cracks me up because she has no idea that we both do it.
Sometimes I am convinced that my sister in law can read my mind.
Sometimes people are relentless and they need to be told so.
Sometimes I can listen to the same song a good ten times in a row. WOW that sounds so manic, but hey- its true.
Sometimes we want people to go the extra mile for us and when they dont it hurts like hell.
Sometimes a nice long anticipated drive turns into a nightmare when it starts to pour and the traffic seems to go on for miles.
Sometimes Townes Van Zandt and Harry Nilsson bring me to tears- in a really goood way. IF I NEEDED YOU always gets me.
Sometimes I have bloggerhea, sometimes I dont.

ROCKING WHILE MERGING
Today -while I was driving on my main drag, I found myself heavily engrossed in thought. A plethora of thoughts actually. Sometimes my mind feels like its on six cups of coffee while my body seems to be on 3 tylenol pm's. Strange. Btw, I dont drink coffee. Sometimes ill have a decaf cappuccino for the fun of social coffee drinking, but thats about as far as it goes.
Anywhoo- Im stopped at a red light, and I suddenly turn to my left- which ill have you all know- when im driving, I usually look only straight ahead for a number of reasons.
1. Its always awkward if you see an acquaintance on the road. For that one second when youre not sure whether to wave, nod, smile or even roll down the window to acknowledge their presence - its really odd. I usually smile- only to get rebuffed, so ive learned the hard way to stay at 10 and 2.
2. I dont like to see creepy guys looking into my car and staring at me chewing gum, yeah its gum, nothing too complicated. Move on creepazoid.
3. I tend to sing in my car and when im busted, I get embarrassed, so Id rather pretend that there is no one else on the road while im belting out FREE FALLIN' or YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIGHT LONG.
Back to my story- So I look left and see this dude jamming out hard core to a tune I cant quite make out. This guy is pounding away at his steering wheel- air drum style. NOW- we have all seen this before, but trust me when I tell you, this guy was covering ground like whoa. He had some side action, some in between action and some head jerking action going on. This guy was jamming like it was nobodys business. He even hit the imaginary cymbal at one point. Ive NEVER seen anything like it. He was in the zone and couldnt give a damn who was watching.
Suddenly, I was one of those creepy people transfixed by my lane partner- hard core staring. The car behind me let out a roar of a honk alerting me to the fact that the light had changed -- distracting him.. and... I was CAUGHT- I was one of those shady gawkers- I smiled and floored the gas in horrification.

I DONT KNOW...
I cant even think of a witty title for this post. Today was an annoying day. Had a very early start and had to deal with some pain in the assness. Glad its over with though, so whatever.
I miss N. I miss school oddly enough.
Ive decided that in order for me to really be productive, I need to be busy. I know that sounds like a given, but with me, when I have down time, I tend to lag- no good. I know that I need to hit the reset button when Ive only been listening to my recently played playlist on my ipod for more than 3 days. Psttt... its been way more than 3 days.
RESET-
Musically, Ive shied away from brit pop electro bands for the last few months, but -- Ive been listening to THESE NEW PURITANS. They sound like The KLAXONS, BLOC PARTY and ART BRUT- but none the less- Good summer tunes. Heavy on the electro. They first received their big buzz when Hedi Slimane asked them to do a song for his DIOR HOMME show at the end of 07. Anytime a brit band has contact with HS they basically blow up- Enter THE RAKES- with their tune- THE WORLD WAS A MESS BUT HIS HAIR WAS PERFECT.
Anyway-Check em out if youre looking for a cool new brit fix. The album is called THE BEAT PYRAMID.

!!!!!!!
This just in - hot off the FREAKING press!!!!
BRIGHT EYES IS RELEASING A SOLO ALBUM ON AUGUST 4TH... Im not sure what they mean by solo, because BRIGHT EYES is his solo project where he usually plays with some steady friends, depending on the place and time, but honestly I dont really care. Im sooo excited.

Courtesy of brooklynvegan.com
"This recording was made in Tepoztlán, Morelos, México during the months of January and February 2008. In Tepoztlán, a place known for Aztec Magic and Extra-Terrestrial Sightings, a temporary studio was created in a mountain villa called Valle Místico at the outskirts of town. It was produced by Conor Oberst with much help from engineer and long time associate Andy LeMaster. A special band was assembled for the recording, known amongst themselves and to friends as The Mystic Valley Band. It was there at Valle Místico that Conor and the band lived and worked for that time in near perfect harmony, often unaware of the hour or the day.
Conor Oberst will be touring this album throughout the summer and has already announced an appearance at September's Austin City Limits festival. "
I guess he will be the only one singing.. Cant wait for August 12th. Bowery Ballroom!!

VIVA LA DORKUS...
OK, okay, so not like me-but here it goes. Im going to write about the new COLDPLAY album. VIVA LA VIDA and his dying or something or other friends...
I first heard the VIOLET HILL track a few weeks ago on the DL and kinda liked it. Of course I liked it because it was COLDPLAY and everyone LOVES them, like OMG!!! The truth is, I like them too. I am sometimes jealous of GWYNETH PALTROW because her husband probably croons to her in bed AND he has an english accent.
I guess its just that I tend to shy away mainstream stuff because it gets so hyped up and usually Im unimpressed. Call it elitist if you will, I dont really care. Half the music I like most people havent heard of because few take the time to look outside the box. I dont mean it in a snobby way at all, its just- Why read my blog if you can read about U2, COLDPLAY and MAROON 5?? Let all the others talk about the same crap. I like to enlighten and open peoples ears up to stuff theyve never heard of.
Anyway. Thanks to JS- Ive had the album for a week now. Was playing VIOLET HILL to death and STRAWBERRY SWING.. Strawberry Swing was produced by BRIAN ENO along with a bunch of other songs, need I say more? Hello brilliance-- Hes honestly the reason why I gave this album more than 10 minutes of my time. VIDA LA VIDA is an awful name for a song and dont even get me started with the fact that its the name of the album .. HI, is cheesy there?? Im sorry but all I can think of is LIVING LA VIDA LOCA. I will only refer to this album as the "NEW ONE."
One thing I have noticed is that the lyrics to their songs are pretty simple and unimpressive. Particularly on the 42 track. "Those who are dead are not dead, theyre just living in my head.. And since I fell for that spell, I am living it as well.." Sorry chris, but youll need to do a bit more to impress me, lyrically speaking on this album. Another favorite track of mine is LOST and LOVERS IN JAPAN. OKAY DAMMIT, I LIKE THIS ALBUM- GRRRRR... Happy mainstreamers???!!!
It has a whimsical vibe to it- to which I will credit ENO for. The album has an ethereal chant-like sound that almost reminds me a bit of PANDA BEAR and SONIC YOUTH, lending a nice atmospheric vibe as well. The introduction of synthesizers, violins and bongos are refreshing, fading out the usual piano like ballads that they are infamous for. The first track LIFE IN TECHNiCOLOR is a complete instrumental, didnt love it, honestly. We all know that MARTIN can sing and he proves to live to up to his end of the deal.
All in all, its a (really) nice album. I recommend it. Buy it, steal it, play it- just dont be caught dead saying VIDA LA VIDA in my presence, k??!
In other news, I had to write an essay today for class. Havent written one of those in a while. I think I tanked. Terrible topic. Should all college students be required to learn a foreign language?? HUH??!! Who cares. Claro que si- OBVS!!!

GUSTER
So- I just came across an acapella version of GUSTERS song CAREFUL. CAREFUL is my favorite GUSTER track. It always puts me in a good mood when I hear it whilst driving. I think its worth checking out. Im going to post the original first and then the aca version. I hope you like. Put on your choir cardigan and enjoy. If you like this track, check out DIANE too. Good band. Not new or anything.

OKAY, I THINK IM READY....
Sharing means caring. I love to share music if I feel youre worthy. Music is my lifeline. I love when someone enjoys a recommendation and tells me about it. Call it validation if you will. One of the hardest sales though, is BRIGHT EYES. I find that most people cringe when they first hear it and continue to do so the second and third time too. I guess I wasn’t exactly sold the first time I heard BE either, but once I listened to his lyrics, I was hooked. The man just has way with words, in my opinion. Trying to make someone listen to the words to his words in my presence isn’t exactly the easiest thing to do. Oh well. I refuse to drop my cause though. I finally got my sis to like LUA. Great success. Huge- really.
Another one of my most favorite bands are JIMMY EAT WORLD. I haven’t blogged about them because I feel that I cannot even do them justice with my simple style of writing. I know that sounds ridiculous but its true. When I truly LOVE a band, I become intimidated to write about the effect they have on me. I shit you not, Ive been putting off writing about them from the inception of this blog. Ugh, even writing this down feels like a huge weight has been lifted off of my shoulders. Im going to keep this short and sweet. Most people automatically think of that song THE MIDDLE, when they hear their name, but that song was just a snip it of radio hit fodder. Lets get to the meat and potatoes, shall we??
HEAR YOU ME. Sheer beauty in a ballad. Perfection. Gives me the goose bumps. 23, another great song. So candid and moving. I guess what I really love about JEW are the deep confessionals that take place in each and every song. You know exactly what youre getting into when you choose to listen to them. When I need a huge hug- I listen to them. After a draining day, it hits the spot. Need a good cry? Yep. Feeling reflective? Mhmm. Wow, I sound emo, but its true, besides, who the hell am I kidding? I AM emo. Shoot me. FUTURES would have to be my most favorite album but CLARITY is right there with it. BLEED AMERICAN had an interesting story due to its release and the sensitivity of 9-11 and was renamed JIMMY EAT WORLD. IF YOU DON’T, DON’T is an amazing track off of that record. LUCKY DENVER MINT is an upbeat track with waves of intensity. CHASE THIS LIGHT is their newest album. I love the cover, its a huge peacock feather- really cool. I like it but I love their older stuff a lot more. If I needed to choose one word to describe their music, Id choose bittersweet. I can go on and on forever about these guys but as it is this post is pretty long and my frozen coffee is melting.. So… check them out if you want.
LOVES.

EXCUSE ME...
I met my nameless friend for lunch downtown today. We decided to go outdoors because the weather was too nice to sit inside. It took me 40 minutes to get a dumb parking spot and I was bugging out- Worst feeling when you cant find one. Anyway, after what seemed like forever, I finally got one and reached into my bag for quarters. I scraped the bottom only to find dimes and some pennies. Looked in the quarter holder in the car and there was a measly 2. What was 30 minutes going to do for me? I was meeting _______- we can talk for hours at a time!! I was searching under the seats.. under the mats.. nothing. UGH.. I thought to myself. There wasnt a bodega nor a newsstand in sight. I couldnt give this spot up and I wasnt interested in returning to pump the meter up again once I left the vicinity. I put my 2 quarters in and made this frustrated face, hoping that someone would walk by and save me by offering me a quarter or two or possibly 4. But who was I kidding. I live in NY- home of the "help no one" motto. I was struggling to get the gall up to use my girl skills and sheepishly ask someone if they could spare a quarter. I even searched the street around the car. It wasnt even like I had a single to offer for 4 quarters. The smallest bill I had was a 20. Its strange because im so outgoing in so many ways but so shy in others. This instance fell under the "im afraid of my own shadow/painfully shy" category.
Feeling defeated, I kept quiet and decided to go with the cross my fingers and pray that I dont get a ticket plan. When I met _____ I asked her if she had a quarter- Negative. I then said that I was dying to ask a stranger for a quarter but didnt have the guts. I stated that I knew she wouldnt think twice about asking a random stranger and she confirmed. "Whats the big deal?, of course I would" "I know, im a loser, but I just couldnt, I cant do things like that, I become an awkward 5 year old" She rolled her eyes.
We sat, ate, chatted, laughed -- all the usual stuff. We agreed that we would both love a cigarette right then and there, but that I would have to decline because A. I dont smoke and B. I didnt have any smokes. Before I could finish the sentence she poked her head over to the table of 2 guys sitting next to us and plainly said- "do you have a cigarette?" as if they were her best friends and she was asking them about their night last night. UGHHH I was filled with envy- but like the 2nd grade kind of envy you feel when you have your crappy 24 pack of crayola crayons in school and the kid sitting right next to you whips out the huge box with the sharpener and 84 crayons.. Ya follow?? Oh to have b*lls of steel like that... Id be too embarrassed to ever ask. I must say tho, I love a good dare and am ridiculously outgoing in so many other ways. I guess you cant win em all.
By the way, they didnt have one for her. She then asked the waiter for one, oddly no one smoked on staff. And yeah, I got a ticket.
THE END.

RANDOM ROAR..
I had a great weekend this weekend. The weather was amazing. The company was too.
My new niece is a blessing- shes also so very beautiful. Innocence and purity are two words that come to mind when I hold her. Her little body will eventually grow older and taller and this world will have its way with her. Until then though, just sitting still with her- watching her little chest fill with air and slowly fall with a faint sigh makes me melt and reminds me just how precious and miraculous life is. I feel calmest when she is in my arms and that feels good. Im so proud of my sister and my brother in law and watching them with her, makes me teary.
Sometimes I feel so overwhelmed with emotion that it becomes hard for me to handle. Not necessarily in a bad way but just in a full way. Sometimes in an overwhelmingly happy kind of way too. Its almost as if ive been eating everything in sight and then suddenly, I feel so full and displaced having no idea what to do with this feeling. Sometimes I just tune it all out and go into auto pilot mode, going thru the daily motions of life. Other times- I dissect and analyze each emotion, like a surgeon. Sometimes I just sit very still with these feelings until they slowly dissolve within me and become diluted with everything else.
The one thing that I am learning not to do, is to act on impulse. Its easier said than done but proves to be rewarding. Thing is, we are inherently programmed with reflexes. Someone hurts you, you punch back to defend yourself. You go to the doctor as a child, the doc hits your knee with that hammer thing to see if your knee rises in time and whether your reflex/reaction is up to par... Something flies by us, we automatically go to block and protect ourselves.
Sometimes we need to just chill out and be- before acting or even not acting on anything.
Youre welcome-
