RESTORED FAITH...

Sometimes, a random act of kindness can be so inspiring. Seeing one on the streets of New York especially, is rare. Yesterday, I witnessed kindness between two strangers that kinda rocked my world. Therefore, I feel compelled to blog about my experience.

While stopped at a red light in the city, on 8th Avenue, I saw a man, exiting a taxi. As he slammed the door, I noticed that he had dropped a piece of paper. I tried to look at it, but it almost seemed as though it was a baggage claim stub or something that he nonchalantly "dropped" on the floor. By dropped I mean, the kind of thing NY'ers sometimes do when they think no one else is looking- also known as-- drumroll please- LITTERING. GASP, I know.. There were 2 cops right in front of him, btw. So anyway, I didnt scream out my window to tell him that he had dropped a scrap of paper because I thought it was deliberate and that he was guilty of the L word, and by that, I dont mean love. He was also kinda far away, so I left it alone.

Anyway, typical NY setting, a delivery boy on a bicycle was behind him riding his bicycle by in front of the 2 cops. I mention the cops again because they play an important role in the clincher-- Back to the story. So this delivery boy stops and gets the mans attention and points to the ground to show the man that he dropped something. The man bent down to pick it up. It was then that I got a closer view and saw that it was a $5.00 bill. The man looked at the delivery boy, put it in his hand and said "Keep that, thanks for being honest, man"

I know, I know, dont you have the goosebumps??

I screamed out my window, "Aww, thats the coolest thing Ive seen in a while" while the cops just looked on unfazed. Gd forbid they wouldve told the man that he dropped something right in front of their faces, I bet those morons were stoked to pocket it after the guy disappeared.

Stories like those remind me that there are some really good people out there in this world and that a mere good deed still goes a long way. Gosh, I wish I got to see stuff like that happen everyday. So refreshing. Suddenly I feel like I want to do more for others and focus on selfless acts. We all should, dont ya think?
