So this week is CMJ over here. It just means that its a music marathon of shows and new bands showcasing their acts hoping to be discovered as the "next big thing". Its a tad pretentious if you ask me. Every dork and their nerdy friend comes out flashing their badges. NY is always a place to catch great tunes. We dont need festivals to mark that fact. But hey, im not complaining. Im just bitter that my pass fell through. Truth be told- you dont really need a badge all the time, just a smile ;)
Last night I met up with MM whom I havent seen in ages!! It was so great to hang with him again. I met him at MERCURY LOUNGE and he was with his friend C, who was super cool and funny. I caught the tail end of TABACO an electronic band that plays along to a projector screen of odd images including animation and RICHARD SIMMONS classes. Hi is sweatin to the oldies there??!! I liked them. They sounded a bit like HOT CHIP and RATATAT with a fresh new zest. This was just the prelude to an amazing set by FUJIYA MYAGI. I love these guys. I saw them a couple of years ago when I saw PETER BJORN AND JOHN play at WEBSTER HALL. Last night they were off the charts amazing. I highly recommend them if your an electronic dance fan. They remind me of KRAFTWERK and !!!, two other really great bands. Check out their song ANKLE INJURIES, its super trancelike. They say their name forty times over during the track. Its genius. I think that every band should have a self titled song or at least a shout out style song. Just sayin.. KNICKERBOCKER is the hottest track on the new album titled LIGHT BULBS. Seeing it live was a treat for sure. The words vanilla, strawberry and knickerbocker glory never sounded sexier. YUMMM. Sorry peeps, youre going to need to bounce for both albums, the earlier one called TRANSPARENT THINGS. BLASTTTTT this SH*T!!!

I think it was at Bowery Ballroom a couple of years back. I called to find out the set times to see when the headliner was going on. The guy at the box office heard me dismiss the opener and said "You want to catch these guys. They're really good." He was talking about Fujiya and Miyagi. Been a fan ever since.
